Dell PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM) | Scan Requirements

Preparation for Scanning Dell PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM)

StorageGuard collects configuration data from Dell PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM) by opening an HTTPS connection to PPDM and running REST API calls (api/login). 

The following table lists the requirements for scanning PPDM:

# Description
1 Provide the PPDM IP address.
2 Provide a PPDM REST user name and password.
3 The PPDM user should be assigned with a readonly role enabling it to run queries. Examples of read-only APIs used:
  • /api/v2/configurations
  • /api/v2/users
  • /api/v2/common-settings
4 Make sure that IP connectivity through HTTPS is available between the StorageGuard server and PPDM.
 

 

Creating a User Account for Scanning PPDM

The following suggested method can be used to create a user account with appropriate privileges.

  • Login to the PPDM Web UI.
  • Navigate to PowerProtect Data Manager Administration > Users page.
  • Add user and assign it with the appropriate role.

NOTE: It is recommended to also follow the guidelines specified under Preparation for Scanning Storage/Backup Management hosts.
