AvailabilityGuard™ uses read-only SMCLI commands to collect configuration data from IBM DS 3000/4000/5000 family arrays. These commands run on one or more UNIX servers in the IT environment. Collectively, these servers can query all DS arrays in the scope. These servers are also known as SMCLI proxies.
AvailabilityGuard™ runs read-only commands on the SMCLI proxy over a secure shell (SSH) session. The connection from the proxy to the IBM DS storage system requires authorization details (user/password) for the target storage system.
To scan an IBM DS3000/4000/5000 storage system, you should make the following preparations:
- Obtain the SMCLI proxy host name or IP address.
- Obtain an OS user account for the SMCLI proxy.
- Obtain the IBM storage system name or IP address.
- Obtain an IBM storage system user account.
- Verify that IP connectivity through SSH (default is port 22) is available between the
AvailabilityGuard™ collector server and each SMCLI proxy. - Verify that IP connectivity is available between the SMCLI proxy and each
IBM storage system that it scans.
Additional notes:
- Avoid using the '<' and '>' characters in the password.
- In order to scan an IBM DS storage system, two different user accounts are required; one account for the Operating System on which SMCLI is installed and a second account for the IBM DS storage system.
