Now that you've successfully installed AvailabilityGuard, your next steps are to configure the scan scope and analysis.
In this article:
Scan Configuration
To configure the scan, navigate to the Configuration tab and select Configuration Wizard on the left bar. The wizard allows you to configure the scan scope using 5 steps:
Step 1 - Configure scan of Management Systems.
This step enables you to configure the scan of IT management systems such as VMware vCenter, Microsoft SCVMM, Cisco UCS Manager, Oracle Enterprise Manager and more. You will need to provide the name or IP address for target systems, and associate them with a connectivity policy (read-only credentials). You can click on Verify Connectivity () to test your configuration and provided credentials.
Step 2 - Configure scan of Storage and SAN Systems.
This step enables you to configure the scan of storage systems such as EMC VMAX, Hitachi G-Series, HP 3PAR, IBM V7000, Brocade/Cisco SAN switches and more. You will need to provide the name or IP address of the target system or for a management system / proxy host that can report on the storage configuration, and associate them with a connectivity policy.
Step 3 - Site configuration (Optional).
This step can be used to define geographical sites and associate discovered hosts and storage systems with the appropriate sites.
Step 4 - Configure scan of Unix / Linux / Windows hosts.
This step can be used to form host scan groups. For hosts not automatically discovered through management systems such as vCenter / SCVMM / other, you will need to provide the host name or IP address, and associate it with a connectivity policy. For large number of hosts, it is possible to import a CSV file.
Step 5 - Configure scan of databases.
This step can be used to form database scan groups.
Scan and Risk Analysis Scheduling
To schedule a scan and/or data analysis, navigate to the Configuration tab and select Scan Scheduling on the left bar. There are multiple scheduling options:
- Full cycle task. Enables you to configure a scheduled task that includes scanning all enabled management systems, storage systems, host and database scan groups, followed by a data analysis. If you're not sure how to configure your first scan, you should favorably consider the Full Cycle option.
- Scan task. Enables you to configure a scheduled task for specific scan scope and max scan duration.
- Data analysis task. Enables you to configure a scheduled task for data analysis.
Running the Scan and Risk Analysis
Once you've completed the configuration of the scan scope and scheduled tasks, the scan and analysis will be automatically triggered by AvailabilityGuard at the scheduled time. If you'd like to perform the scan and analysis immediately, select the relevant task and click on Execute selected task now (). Be sure to navigate to the Tickets tab to review open tickets regarding existing risks of data loss and downtime after the scan and analysis are completed,
Note: refer to the Scan Requirements section, AvailabilityGuard User Guide and Deployment Requirements documents for additional information.
